Multilevel Models for School Effectiveness Research

چکیده
Studies designed to answer these questions have employed different sources of data, different variables, and different analytic techniques. Both the results of those studies and the methods used to conduct them have been subject to considerable academic debate. In general, there has been widespread agreement on the first question. Most researchers have concluded that schools indeed influence student achievement. Murnane’s (1981) early review captured this consensus well:

Application of Hierarchical Linear Models/Linear Mixed-effects Models in School Effectiveness Research
Multilevel data are very common in educational research. Hierarchical linear models/linear mixed-effects models (HLMs/LMEs) are often utilized to analyze multilevel data nowadays. This paper discusses the problems of utilizing ordinary regressions for modeling multilevel educational data, compare the data analytic results from three regression techniques, and demonstrate the appropriate use of ...
متن کاملMethods in School Effectiveness Research
This paper discusses the methodological requirements for valid inferences from school effectiveness research studies. The requirements include long term longitudinal data and proper statistical modelling of hierarchical data structures. The paper outlines the appropriate multilevel statistical models and shows how these can model the complexities of school, class and student level data.
متن کاملMultilevel Growth Mixture Models for Classifying Groups
This article introduces a multilevel growth mixture model (MGMM) for classifying both the individuals and the groups they are nested in. Nine variations of the general model are described that differ in terms of categorical and continuous latent variable specification within and between groups. An application in the context of school effectiveness research is presented. Schools are classified i...
متن کاملMultilevel and Agent-Based Modelling in the Analysis of Differential School Effectiveness
Multilevel Models (MLM) have pioneered the analysis of hierarchical data, with two or more levels. Agent-Based Models (ABM) are also used to analyse social phenomena in which there are two or more levels involved. This paper addresses the integration between MLM and ABM. To provide a basis of comparison, we focus on differential school effectiveness analysis, where MLM has been well studied, us...
متن کاملDesigning an Integrated Multilevel Evaluation Model: A Case Study of the School Peer Counseling Program
This study sought to design a comprehensive evaluation model which can be utilized to evaluate educational programs with broad target populations and multiple management and executive layers, including the School Peer Counseling Program. This qualitative research had a descriptive design. Purposeful sampling method was used and the sample was non-randomly selected from the executive scientific ...
